Alumni Spotlight - Cody Myers
Cody Myers’ journey to Central Wyoming College was anything but conventional. Growing up, his family moved frequently before eventually settling in Crowheart. Despite the constant changes, Wyoming always felt like home, with many of his relatives still residing in the area. Cody attended Riverton High School, where he graduated with a full ride scholarship to Sheridan College for rodeo—an opportunity that felt natural, as his brother was already a student there.
However, after a year and a half of college, Cody felt the pull of a different path. He left Sheridan College and enlisted in the Army, serving his country with the same dedication he had once reserved for rodeo. Upon completing his military service, he returned to Wyoming, where he continued to compete in rodeo for a while. But by the age of 32, Cody knew it was time for a change. His rodeo days were behind him, and he was ready to explore new horizons. In 1997, he began taking classes at Central Wyoming College, though his attendance was sporadic at first.
It wasn’t until 2004 that Cody’s true calling started to come into focus. Enrolled in a few criminal law courses, he encountered the term “School Resource Officer” (SRO) for the first time. The idea captivated him. Cody had always enjoyed being around kids and teaching them, but this was something more. For the first time in his academic career, Cody became a straight-A student, earning a spot on the Dean’s List. His newfound enthusiasm for learning coincided with an opportunity at the Riverton Police Department, which was hiring at the time. Cody applied, tested, and was one of only two candidates selected from his class. After spending a few years on patrol, he transitioned into the schools, where he found his true passion—and he’s never looked back.
Since then, Cody Myers has crafted a remarkable career dedicated to the safety and well-being of students in his community. With over 18 years of service as a School Resource Officer in Riverton, Shoshoni, and now at Central Wyoming College (CWC), Cody has built strong, lasting relationships with students and made a significant impact on their lives. His unwavering dedication and passion for his role have not gone unnoticed; he was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Wyoming School Resource Officers Association, a testament to the profound influence he’s had on countless young lives.
